This is a high profile leadership role in account management team responsible for:
Leading a team in retaining & growing large retail relationships
Acting as customer champion for retail relationships
Providing thought leadership in the delivery of tailored propositions to customers
Closely managing revenue & profitability growth across portfolio
Building capabilities that enable proactive risk management across portfolio
Representing the business at cross-Card Business, Scheme, and Industry level meetings
Championing the views of merchants with the Card Schemes
Acting as a knowledge point of contact for industry initiatives such as PCI compliance,
Actively performance managing a team including coaching and development
Ensuring team builds strong relationships with wider Group and relevant third parties

Role will report into Head of UK Account Management and will be a key member of the leadership team responsible for delivering a multi-million pound income target.

Requirements
The merchant acquisition business, is highly competitive with very fine margins resulting in significant swings in net income recovery levels. The role requires a commercially focused individual capable of negotiating multi-million pound contracts a main Board level with Finance Directors and Treasurers of FTSE 100 companies. The jobholder must therefore possess the presence, interpersonal, negotiation and technical skills to be seen as credible. The acquiring partner has a strategic relationship role with the merchants and the job holder must also have the breadth of knowledge to be able to proactively advise and inform the merchant on card issues that impact on their business

Experience:
•MBA is a plus
•Line management experience including; performance management, managing continuous improvement, coaching, personal development
•Strong understanding of financial performance, planning, forecasting, P&L accounts, budgets and analysis
•Relationship management/business development of large national names. Having Board level experience/exposure and the credibility/gravitas to be accepted
•In depth understanding of the Cards industry (preferably an appreciation of Issuing as well), with special knowledge of the acquiring arena. To be aware of and understand the key factors surrounding the industry i.e. Risk, interchange, Scheme rules.
•An appreciation of the technical side of acquiring e.g. systems, software and communications.
•Knowledge of risk management processes (operational, reputational & credit risk) in the acquiring business is a plus



Responsibilities
• Delivery against net income, portfolio risk & customer engagement metrics
•Retention of customer relationships and proactive development of business through delivery of solutions
•Architecting tailored customer proposition for retail industry vertical in partnership with Business Development teams – measurable by success in cross sales & customer engagement surveys
• Retention of high performing talent through coaching & development
•Successful performance management of retail vertical team as demonstrated through employee development plans & periodic performance reviews
•Develop trusted advisor status within other business functions & with customers by demonstrating strong understanding of retail industry and payments trends
•Successful implementation of identified business initiatives across portfolio
•Develop strong controls procedures within portfolio that enable tracking of portfolio risk on periodic basis and enable compliance to regulatory & audit requirements

The Individual
Successful candidate will be a highly motivated self starter with proven experience in relationship management of high value B2B relationships. The individual will be a committed people leader who is able to demonstrate past success through coaching & developing staff and actively engaging customers. Professional communication skills & strong influencing skills are critical to success. Following is desirable:

•In depth understanding of all aspects of card acquisition including authorisations, processing and settlement.
•Understanding of the key cost drivers within the acquiring business
•Appreciation of the role of communications protocols, file delivery and EFTPOS software.
•Understanding of the risk aspects of acquiring certain categories of merchants
•Thorough knowledge of the Card Scheme rules and payment processes as they affect merchants
•Ability to drive change through people
